    About Chat

A chat room is an online virtual meeting place where people can converse in real time.  Communication in the chat room occurs as as users type and transmit text or as they talk.  In regular Internet char rooms, many conversations can be going at the same time; however, for educational purpose, a teacher can control the content of the conversation.

Instant Messaging

Instant messaging enables you to create a private chat room with another person.  Like Microsoft Messenger or Yahoo Messenger, the instant messaging system alerts you whenever someone on your personal list is online.  You can then initiate a chat session with that person. Using NetMeeting and a camera, your chat partner can see you live.  If he/she has a camera, through NetMeeting, you can see him/her live as well.

Creating an interactive real-time learning environment; engaging in discourse; problem solving; student-student conferences; teacher-student conferences; collaborative group work; real-time presentations; real-time discussions.

There are chat rooms you may use 

Microsoft Messenger: For this, you need to follow these steps:
(1) Go to www.hotmail.Com  at http://lc2.law5.hotmail.passport.com/cgi-bin/login and click on Sign Up for an E-Mail Account. This will take you to       http://lc2.law5.hotmail.passport.com/cgi-bin/register?_lang=EN&id=2&fs=1&cb=_        lang%3dEN&ct=1013006552 A Registration Page.

(2) Sign up and get a Hotmail e-mail address.

(3) Then go to  http://messenger.msn.com/default.asp?client=1 and Download
     The Messenger.  If you are using a computer other than Windows, go to
     http://messenger.msn.com/clients/msnexplorer.asp and select the
     appropriate platform.
 
(4) Once you have downloaded the Messenger, you can sign in using your
     hotmail e-mail address.
 
(5) Then you can add me to your friends list.  My address is
      Online_English@hotmail.com
 
Yahoo Messenger: If you prefer, you can use the Yahoo Messenger.  For
    this, you need to go to http://messenger.yahoo.com/ and download the
    Messenger.  Then add my name.  My Yahoo ID is online_students
Skype allows for a more effective way of teaching.  A learner can speak to anyone in the world for free. Invite friends to join Skype and can chat for as long as needed. Once you are registered for a LESSON, add my Skype ID english-wizard
